All Studies Dashboard


Active Study

All of the company's studies will be found on the main dashboard. Any active studies will be displayed on top. To continue working on the study, click on the "Continue Progress" button just below the studies progress bar.


Completed Studies

Any completed studies will be listed just below any active studies.


Company Access

Access given to collaborators will be located in the "Company Access" section on the left sidebar of the main dashboard.


Study Workspace


Study Progress

The progress of your study is outlined on the main workspace dashboard with the following types of icons:

  • A green circle and check mark - this indicates that the section has been finalized.

  • A purple diamond and arrow - this indicates that the section has not yet been finalized and is in progress.

  • A lock symbol - this indicates that the previous sections have not yet been completed in order to progress to this stage of the study.


Edit Filing Information

In the upper right-hand corner of the workspace dashboard, is the section that allows you to update or change your tax return filing information. Click on this button to make any necessary changes.


Tax Info & Credit Utilization

Select this workspace to continue working or editing any information regarding the company's tax information or credit utilization.

Select the "Edit Tax Info & Credit Utilization" button to make any changes or updates to this section.


Business Components


Import Business Components

Select the "Import" option to add multiple BCs at one time. Add a name and description for each of the BCs you want to import into your study.


Edit Business Components

If you have finalized the Business Components section, you can still go back and edit your BCs. Select the "Edit Business Components" button in the upper right-hand corner of the workspace to make any necessary changes.


Financial Data

The Financial Data workspace is where you will be entering all of the financial data for the R&D credit calculation. Each section operates similarly to one another. This allows the user to have a simplified experience when entering all of the financial data.


Import Data

Each section has an option for importing the expense data into the platform using our downloadable template. Select the "Import from .CSV" button and you see an option to download the template.

Each template comes with column headers, which should not be changed, to indicate the necessary information. Please be sure to carefully look at each header.

📢Note:

r_and_d_percentage

  • must be a whole number

  • decimals should rounded to the nearest percent.

Examples:

if R&D allocation is 35.3%, the value in the template must be 35.

if R&D allocation is 75.5%, the value in the template must be 76.


Import Wages through Payroll Provider

This feature allows you to connect to your company's payroll provider to import employee names and wage data.

Just select your provider in the list and log into your account to import the necessary data. GOAT.tax supports the following payroll and HR systems:

  • Gusto

  • Insperity

  • Justworks

  • Paychex Flex

  • Paycom

  • QuickBooks Online Payroll

  • Rippling

  • Run Powered by ADP

  • Sequoia One

  • TriNet

  • Zenefits


Manual Input

Each section allows for a manual input option, where you can enter in the data one line at a time.

Each section follows a similar format but may ask for slightly different information. To confirm or cancel an input, select the appropriate button in the lower right-hand corner.


Finalize Section Without Expenses

Each section, except for Revenue, allows you to finalize a section without entering any information. This button is located beneath the manual add button for each section. For wages, it is located to the right of the manual add button.


Deleting Rows

If you mistakenly entered incorrect information or had a bad import of data, you can delete items using the selection box next to the appropriate row.

If multiple items need to be deleted, select multiple rows and when you are ready click on the "Delete Selected" button next in the upper right-hand side of the workspace.

If you would like to delete all items, select the box in the upper left-hand corner of the workspace next to the first column header. This will select every row and allow you to delete all the items in that section.

📢Note:

Be advised that this data is NOT able to be recovered. Please only delete if you are certain about removing all of the data in that section.


Review & Submit

Edit buttons are located in the upper right-hand corner of each section. Select the button for the section you would like to make updates to. If all the data is correct, the submission button labeled "Continue to Submission" is located in the top right corner of the workspace.


Business Component Allocations

To enter the percentage, select the appropriate BC column for the row you want to update and begin typing in the percentage. The remaining column will be updated accordingly. It will show "Done" when there is no more % left to allocate.


Labor Documentation (If applicable)

This section will open once all of the Business Component Allocations are complete and the Filing status of the original tax return, for that tax year, is "Yes".


Add Answer

Located on the left-hand side beneath the first question is a button to add more answers. Once this section is complete you can finalize this workspace in the top right-hand corner.


Company Details

Edit your company details in this section if there are any mistakes or changes to the company.


GOAT.BAR

Located in the upper right-hand corner, next to your account icon, the GOAT.BAR is available to help guide you along the completing your R&D study.

When you expand the GOAT Bar, you will be presented with commonly asked questions regarding the section you are currently working on. This information will help guide you in the right direction if you are ever unsure of what information is needed to complete the current sections.


Chat Support

Located in the bottom right-hand corner, is the Chat Support bot. The Chat Support bot is available to you at any point on the GOAT platform. If at any moment the information in the GOAT Bar does not answer your question, this chatbot is available to you for any questions you may have. It is backed by a large database filled with knowledge about the R&D credit to provide the answers you may be looking for.

There is also the option to speak directly with one of our Tax Gurus if you are still unable to get the answer you need. Our Tax Gurus, are very knowledgeable about the R&D credit and will be able to help you get your studying going in the right direction.
